   I have the PayPal account setup to auto return to a thank you page on a website. It appears the user has to click on the link "return to....(website)" when payment is completed in order for that to happen. Am I mistaken?

   To enable Auto-Return (without having the user to click the link), make sure to enable it from your PayPal profile.

   Here is detailed instruction on how to enable auto return:
   https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/mer/express_return_summary-outside

   During the process, you will be prompted to enter Return URL. You can simply enter the address of your site for this, as default.
   MachForm will automatically override the Return URL for each of your form.
