   I found only one post referencing how to do this. It's here.

   The post says to edit view-function.php and make some extensive changes. I would like to avoid making changes to the core code, and I noticed there was a "custom_hooks.php" file in the "hooks" folder.

   Is there a way to insert a US States drop down in the address element using a hook instead of core edits?

   As an aside, it would be a nice feature to allow a custom created state/province/region drop down to be created and chosen by the form creator.

   Unfortunately, it won't be possible to do that using only the hook file. You still need to modify your "view-functions.php" file.

   The hook file is only being used to customize reCAPTCHA themes.

   Ok, thanks for letting me know. I guess I will just have to make sure to keep a backup of the view-function.php file before any future upgrades.
