Email SMTP Problem or other

Hello,
So my client purchased Machform and I've set it all up on Friday for him. The problem we are having is that his host required for email send out to use SMTP Auth. Now everything is properly setup within the config file, such as the username, password, host, areas defined as true.
Testing the settings with his providers give an error like this;
Error sending email: SMTP Error: The following recipients failed: registration@legendestatesacton.comError sending email: SMTP Error: The following recipients failed: something@someone.com
Testing it with one of my own hosting services, it works just fine for sending mail. Also please note that the email within the error message is created on the clients server.
Another note to know, without having the SMTP Auth, it works but the mail takes about 1 - 5 days to arrive... so the test emails did arrive after 1 day but they should right away.
Any suggestion to this?? spoke with the hosting company about this and they looked at the config file and everything. They dont see anything that is there that wouldn't make it work, but maybe the script is using something that their servers dont have or dont allow... is that possible??
Anyone with any suggestion on this would be great.
Thank you in advance and I hope to hear some suggestions.

This sounds to me like the hosting company is using QMail? If so, then their QMail queue is messed up. Did they just recently add spamassin or something similar?
We had the same problem with our email server when we added the spamassin - ask the hosting service to check the mail queue and make sure that nothing is stuck and that the configuration is correct.
I seem to recall that an incorrect reverse DNS lookup configuration was another cause of the slow response, ask them to check that too.
Other than that, I really couldn't tell you what the issue is.
Hope this helps.

This error usually occurs because relaying is not allowed on the SMTP server from the IP address of the web server. Go to the configuration of your SMTP server and turn relaying on for your web server IP address and try again.
