Error with domain-specific email addresses

We run websites for several clients and I've run into this issue a few times already and I'm really curious what the problem is.
The client has email set up with their domain name. When we launch a new site for them and change their A record to point to the new site without affecting their email, the forms always give back this error:
"Error sending email: Could not instantiate mail function."
The email accounts still function normally. Machform just refuses to work with any email address that matches their domain name.Posted 14 years ago # -
The mail agent on that server doesn't seems to be running properly or it might be down? Try to configure your MachForm with SMTP server if you have one.

This happens across several different servers. It seems if the email address of the notification email matches the domain name that the site resides at, we get this error returned.

Is there anything else I can try/any more info I can give to help resolve?

Oops...sorry I didn't notice your last reply.
I think I know the problem.I guess the mail server is using a different server than the website server. Am I correct?
If so, you will need to contact your server admin and ask him to turn off "Local Mail Delivery" on your website server. So that the email designated for your domain is not being sent to the web server, instead it should be sent to your actual mail server.

Ah yes that sounds like that could be the issue as for these accounts we set the A record to point their domain name in order to leave the mail servers alone. I'll give that a try and see if that works. Thank you!
