   I am looking to add a form to my client's site where their customers can register the product they purchased (for future customer support).

   Is it possible to require that the serial number provided by the customer matches up with a list of possible serial numbers?

   This would require some custom coding.
   Where is the list of the serial numbers being stored? on a database table? or file?
